WILLIAM M. FRENTRESS was born in Jo Davies county, Ill.,
December 12, 1837, but reached Iowa April 8, 1866, and has lived
in this state ever since. In 1864 he had made a trip to Montana,
where he passed six months and met with some prosperity in
mining, and then return to Illinois, and, October 30,1865,
married Miss Mary V. Hull, daughter of William and Catherine
Hull, natives of Virginia and of English descent on the paternal
side and of German descent on the maternal side, Catherine Hull
having borne the maiden name of Meyers. Mrs. Mary V. Frentress
was born July 3, 1847, Virginia, and died April 21,1883, in
Iowa. She had lost her father when she was only six years of
age. Her mother, having married again, she came with her
husband, Mr. Crossley, and her daughter Mary V., when the latter
was about eight years of age, to Iowa. For about four years the
family resided in Dubuque, and then moved to Jo Daviess county,
where they came to Iowa, in Grundy county, which state the
mother of Mrs. Frentress died about the year 1877, aged,
perhaps, sixty years.
To William M. and Mary V.
Frentress were born seven children, namely: Henry N., April 16,
1867; Lucy A., July 26, 1869; Frank L., March 3 , 1872; Carrie
A., January 6, 1874; Katie, who was born February 6, 1878, and
who died in March of the same year; Frederick T., born April 17,
1881; Mary V., born April 14, 1883.
Mr. Frentress is highly esteemed wherever known, and has
been called upon to fill various township offices by his
republican fellow citizens. He is a member of the A. O. U. W.,
and his purse is always open to aid his fellows in need. |
