Among the native sons of Colesburg who have remained here after
reaching maturity and have cast in their lots with that of the
town is Dr. F. C. Wilson, who for many years has
successfully practiced his profession here. He was born on the 3d
of October, 1867, a son of Richard and Mary (Steadman) Wilson,
the former a native of England and the latter of Canada. The
father came to Delaware in the '40s and was here married. He
passed away in 1898, but the mother is still living in Colesburg
at the age of sixty six years. The two children born to them are
F. C., of this review; and E. R., a resident of Kansas City,
Missouri.
Dr. Wilson was reared in Colesburg and received his early
education in the common schools. He subsequently attended the
State University, graduating from the medical department of that
institution in 1895. Upon receiving his degree he immediately
returned to Colesburg and has since been engaged in practice
here. His excellent preparation for the profession and his many
years of experience have given him a broad knowledge of disease
and its treatment and, as he is careful in making a diagnosis and
in giving a prescription, his record as a physician is a
distinctly creditable one and he enjoys the confidence of his
parents and his colleagues, being ranked as one of the able
practitioners of the county. He owns twenty acres of land
adjoining Colesburg and also holds title to a farm near Sioux
City, Iowa.
Dr. Wilson was married in 1897 to Miss Blanch R. Knee, a daughter
of Colonel S. G. and Julian (Moreland) Knee, both natives of
Pennsylvania, who settled in this county in the '30s when Iowa
was for the most part a wilderness. Mr. and Mrs. Knee are both
deceased. To their union were born three children and their
daughter, Mrs. Wilson, by her marriage has become the mother of
four children: Clark, deceased; Richard, Ann M. and Helen, all at
home.
The Doctor is a member of the Masonic order, in which he has
taken the Royal Arch degree, and he is now worshipful master of
his lodge. He also belongs to the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows, and his wife is a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Dr. Wilson and his wife are among the most esteemed residents of
Colesburg and each year but serves to strengthen the ties
that bind them to their many friends.
