W. H. Troup, who owns and operates a well improved farm of
one hundred and six and a half acres on section 14, Richland
township, has continuously resided thereon for twenty three
years. His birth occurred in Canada o the 15th of August, 1856,
his parents being Henry and Margaret (Burger) Troup, who were
likewise natives of that country. In 1865 they crossed the border
into the Untied States and for a few years resided on a farm in
Clayton county, Iowa, while subsequently they purchased and
located upon a tract of land in Delaware county, here spending
the remainder of their lives. They had eleven children, eight of
whom grew to maturity.
W. H. Troup attended the common schools in the acquirement of an
education and remained under the parental roof until twenty six
years of age, when he was married and established a home of his
own. Starting outas an agriculturist on his own account, he
rented land for ten years and then removed to the farm he now
owns, consisting of one hundred and six and a half acres on
section 14, Richland township, this county. At the end of eight
years he purchased the property, which has remained in his
possession. He is engaged in both farming and dairying and has
met with a gratifying and well merited measure of prosperity in
his undertakings.
In 1882, Mr. Troup was united in marriage to Miss Belle Kellogg,
a native of Clayton county, Iowa, and a daughter of Minor and
Mary (Freeman) Kellogg, who was born in New York and Ohio
respectively. Their marriage was celebrated in this state. Mr.
Kellogg passed away here, but his widow still survives at the age
of seventy seven years. Their children were five in number. Mr.
and Mrs. Troup have a son, Harry E., who was born July 26, 1884,
and assists his father in the operation of the home farm. He is
married and has a daughter, Lucy M.
Mr. Troup gives his political allegiance to the republican party
and has ably served in the capacity of township trustee for four
years. He is a man of many sterling qualities of character
and in the community where he has so long resided holds the
respect of his associates and the regard and esteem of many
friends. |
