Alfred Rissler
finds a place in a work of this character among the prominent and
progressive agriculturists, for he is today owner and proprietor
of a valuable piece of land, embracing two hundred and ninety
eight and a half acres, lying south and west of Ryan in Adams
township. He is a native son of Delaware county, his birth having
occurred on the 20th of December, 1864, and is the second in
order of birth in a family of three children whose parents were
Jacob and Madeline (Schevengruber) Rissler, both of whom were
natives of Switzerland. In 1855 they left the land of the Alps
and, emigrating to the new world and looking about for a
location, decided upon Dubuque county, Iowa, as a desirable place
in which to live. However, they did not remain long in that
locality, for after seeing more of the country, the opportunities
presented in Delaware county appealed more strongly to them, and
they then made a permanent location here on a farm in Adams
township. The father was thereafter identified with the
agricultural interests of the county to the time of his death in
1905. The mother survived but two years, passing away in 1907.
Their children were Jacob, Alfred and Emma, but the daughter died
in 1886.
Alfred Rissler was reared on the homestead in
Adams township and from an early age was trained to the duties of
the home place. However, he was not denied the advantages of an
education such as the common schools afforded and therein pursued
his studies during the period of his boyhood and early youth.
Upon entering business life he decided upon the occupation to
which he was reared as being that for which he seemed best
fitted. He began in a small way, but his energy and industry soon
won him success and as time has passed he has accumulated farm
property until his possessions now embrace two hundred ninety
eight and a half acres, located in Adams township. He carries on
general farming and stock raising, is methodical and accurate as
to details and displays splendid judgment in the conduct of his
interests.
In 1897 Mr. Rissler was united in marriage to
Miss Minnie Everett, a daughter of John Everett, and their
children are, Alfred, Oscar and Everett. He is a man of high
ideals and his life might well be emulated by young men seeking
the truest success. |
