Don A. Preussner, cashier of the First National Bank of Manchester, has made a
creditable record as a leading and progressive young business man and citizen.
He is highly esteemed wherever known and most of all where he is best known. He
was born in Richland township, February 2, 1883, a son of Louis C. and Ella E.
(Hooker) Preussner. The father, a native of Illinois, was born October 27, 1849,
and was reared to the occupation of farming. His parents removed to Delaware
county in 1854 and settled upon a farm in Richland township, where he was
reared. At the present writing, in 1914, he is the state deputy game warden,
which position he has filled for four years. He wedded Ella E. Hooker, a native
of Richland township, born April 11, 1857, and a daughter of Myron and Nancy (Parmenter)
Hooker. Their marriage was celebrated August 25, 1875, and they are now living
in Manchester, having moved from the farm in 1895 to permit their son to attend
the public schools. In their family were three children, but Ben died at the age
of five years arid Dean when two years of age.
The only surviving member of the family is Don A. Preussner, whose name
introduces this review, and after acquiring his preliminary education in the
district schools near his father's farm he became a student in the Manchester
high school, from which he was graduated with the class of 1902. Following his
graduation he became connected with the Manchester & Oneida Railroad, remaining
in that employ for three years, at the end of which time he entered the service
of the First National Bank, leaving the railroad in the forenoon and entering
the bank in the afternoon of the same day. He is now the efficient bank cashier,
popular with the patrons of the institution and a thoroughly trustworthy
representative of the bank, carefully safeguarding the interests of stockholders
and officers. He is also the owner of farm lands in Kansas in addition to owning
stock in the bank.
On the 14th of December, 1910, Mr. Preussner was married to Miss Fran R.
Lovelace, who was born in Monticello, Iowa, a daughter of Clay and Mary (Dando)
Lovelace. Mr. Lovelace is deceased and Mrs. Lovelace is living in Manchester,
Iowa. Mr. Preussner votes with the republican party and fraternally is connected
with the Masons and the Woodmen of the World. He is widely and favorably known
in military circles, being a captain of the a company of the National Guard in
Manchester, and by his fine marksmanship in national competitions has won quite a
number of medals. At all times he has been an exemplary young man, enjoying the
respect, good-will and friendship of all with whom he has come in contact. |
