Chris Inabnit is a widely known and much respected agriculturist of Hazel Green township, where he owns and operates a valuable farm. He was born in Switzerland in September, 1854, a son of Ulrich and Catherine (Burgener) Inabnit, both likewise natives of that mountain republic, where they spent their entire lives and were laid to rest. To them were born four children: Ulrich, who lives in Switzerland; John, a resident of this county; Chris; and Catherine, the wife of John Egger, of Monticello, Iowa.
     Chris Inabnit was reared and educated in his native land and there spent a number of years after reaching maturity, but in 1890 he emigrated to the United States and, making his way to Iowa, settled in Jones county near Monticello. For four and a half years he lived there, working upon farms and carefully saving his earnings. At the end of that time he removed to Prairieburg, Linn county, and rented land for four years, after which he came to this county and for three years rented the farm where he is now living. He subsequently purchased the place, which comprises two hundred and eighty acres in Hazel Green township, two and a half miles from Ryan. He is thorough and painstaking in his work and manages well the business aspect of farming so that his resources are constantly increasing. He carries on general farming and is recognized as one of the up to date agriculturists of his township.
      On the 1st of September, 1878, Mr. Inabnit was united in marriage to Miss Anna Bohren, a daughter of John and Anna (Gertsch) Bohren, both natives of Switzerland. They came to the United States, where their declining years were passed. Mr. and Mrs. Inabnit have become the parents of four children, three of whom survive. The oldest, Chris, lives in Lake county, this state. John, assisting his father with the work of the homestead, was married on the 7th of March, 1907, to Miss Anna Yossi, a daughter of Frederick and Anna (Inabnit) Yossi. She was born in Switzerland on the 7th of March, 1887, and by her marriage, she has become the mother of three children, Fred, Lillie and Harry. Herman, who completes the family of our subject, is still at home.
     Mr. Inabnit gives his political support to the republican party and has thoroughly identified himself with the interests of his adopted country. He has won material prosperity and has also gained an honorable place in the estimation of his fellowman.
