Carl Hartmann

Farming & Stock Raising

Milo & Hazel Green Townships

Carl Hartmann, the owner of two well improved farms, has been a resident of Delaware county for the past twenty seven years and is widely recognized as one of its representative  and enterprising agriculturists. His birth occurred in Germany on the 18th of January, 1862, his parents being Gottlieb and Lena Hartmann, who spent their entire lives in that country. Their five children still survive.

In 1887, when a young man of twenty five years, Carl Hartmann crossed the Atlantic to the United States, landing at Baltimore, whence he made his way immediately to his present location in Delaware county, Iowa. General agricultural pursuits have claimed his attention throughout his entire business career and he now owns two farms of rich and productive land, having one hundred and sixty acres in Milo township, and one hundred and fifty acres in Hazel Green township. He erected a barn and corn crib after taking possession of his property, which reflects his careful supervision in its attractive appearance. He carries on both farming and stock raising on both farms and conducts all his interests in a manner that insures their successful culmination.

On the 22d of September, 1884, Mr. Hartmann was united in marriage to Miss Anna Prabler, by whom he has four sons, as follows: Banhart, who wedded Miss Zena Utton; Otto, who married Miss Bertha Kherly; Herman; and Carl.

Mr. Hartmann gives his political allegiance to the republican party, but the honors and emoluments of office have never had any attraction for him.  His many sterling qualities of character have gained for him the warm regard and friendship of many in his home community and he commands and holds the respect and confidence of all who have business or social relations with him. He and his family are perminent members of the Lutheran church.
