Dr. Bert H. Byers is a well known and successful representative of the medical
fraternity in Manchester and is accorded a gratifying practice. His birth
occurred in Adel, Dallas county, Iowa, on the 31st of May, 1875, his parents
being Clar and Magdalena (Brockway) Byers, the former born in Bryan, Ohio, on
the 17th of June 1854, and the latter in Clyde, New York, April 19, 1842. Clar
Byers, who came to this state by wagon, is now successfully engaged in the
real estate business at Adel. He and his wife have two children, namely: Bert
H., of this review; and Vic L., who is a resident of Denison, Iowa. The mother
of Clar Byers was a descendant of the John Adams family, and an aunt of our
subject belongs to the daughters of the American Revolution.
Dr. Bert H. Byers acquired his early education in the common schools of Iowa
and completed a high school course at Adel in 1893. Subsequently he worked at
the printer's trade for six years and then entered the Still College of
Osteopathy at Des Moines, from which he was graduated in 1911. He then
returned to Manchester and has here been actively engaged in the practice of
his chosen profession throughout the intervening three years, maintaining
offices on Franklin street over Stier's hardware store. An extensive practice
is now accorded him, his patronage having steadily grown as he has
demonstrated his skill and ability in coping with the intricate problems which
continually confront the physician in his efforts to restore health and
prolong life.
On the 30th of July, 1898, Dr. Byers was united in marriage to Miss Katherine
Russell, who was born near Perry, Iowa, and is a daughter of William S. and
Ada (Green) Russell. The doctor and his wife have two children, Gerald Freeman
and Donald James, and are very popular in social circles of the community. Dr.
Byers gives his political allegiances to the republican party, while in
religious faith he is a Methodist.
