Kenwood Catholic Church
February 1908

Father Eckert of Charter Oak and Barney Mahoney of Kenwood collected money for the Kenwood Church. The Church was near completion.

Father Schaefer will not fight the removal of the building. It will cost too much to move and tearing it down will waste too much. So the church will let it stay where it is. He will probably build a brick building for a school.
April 1915
The Kenwood Church was sold several weeks ago. It was impractical to move for use as a school. There was no congregation. It never had more than a handful of worshippers and all had moved away except one family who preferred to go where others also attend. The church and school were sold to Wm. Vogt who used it for an amusement hall. It was built when Fr. Eckart was priest.
The Vogts remodeled the church into a Dance Hall. The fixtures and figurines were carefully dismantled and given to a church in Mapleton. They had dances on Saturday night. It was the biggest entertainment in the locality.
...and I have considerable notes on that VERY short lived Catholic church at Kenwood as well, which was dedicated in that same important month of August 1908 and just 4 years later went up for auction, was sold to a man who in turn converted it to "Kenwood Hall", essentially a very popular area dance hall in nearby Kenwood.
