John Anthony Kafer, son of Mathias Kafer & Dorothea Hartge, was born 2/26/1847. He died on 2/13/1918 and is buried in Mt. Harmony cemetery. John was married to Mary Jane Stone ca1886. Mary died 5/16/1924. John & Mary were the parents of eight children.

Children of John & Mary (Stone) Kafer

Minnie Mary Kafer - (1887-1960) Married in Elkport on 3/16/1904 to August William Meier (1867-1931). Their children were: Zwingly Johann (1906-1906), Duglos Fritz (1908-1909), Frana Anna Meier Sevey (1911-1981) and Ena A. John Anthony Kafer Jr. - (1890-1960). Married to Hilda Horstman (1903-1974) in 1923. They had 2 daughters, LaVonne Viola, who died in infancy, and Betty Ann (1934-1938). John served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He died in the Iowa City Veterans Hospital. John & Hilda are buried in Mt. Harmony cemetery. Their gravestone spells their surname KAFAR. Alice Sylvania Kafer - (1892-1977)

Alice married four times: first on 11/5/1912 to John Nelson McEvers (1890-1960). They had 3 daughters: Opel Evelyn (1913-1960), Irene Mary (1915-1916) & Lucille (1917-1977). John & Alice were divorced.

Alice again married on 1/12/1924 to James Brandenburg (1880-1947). They had 2 daughters: Everetta June (1925-1994) & Vivian Hope (1930-2006).

She married a 3rd time on 6/16/1951 to George Walter Jenkins (1878-1953). Alice married her 4th husband, William Franklin Kite (1900-1977) on 7/1/1960. They divorced.

Her gravestone in Linwood cemetery, Dubuque, is engraved: Alice Kafar Brandenburg Kite 1892-1977

Anna T. Kafer - (1894-1941) Anna was married to George W. Hill. She died Nov. 27, 1941 in Rockford, IL and is buried in Mt. Harmony cemetery.

George Franklin Kafer - (1897-1962)

George was married on 11/19/1924 in Elkader to Mabel Hoffman (1909-1955). They removed to Cassville, WI.

George & Mabel had seven children: Stanley, Donald, Roger, Richard, Kenneth, Donna & Beverly.

Frank J. Kafer - died 1925. He was unmarried. Frank's Obituary

Andrew P. Kafer - (1903-1976). Married to Janet Rielly on 4/13/1940. Andred died 4/30/1976 in Winnebago co., IL.

Alma O. Kafer - (1907-1980). Alma was married to Harry A. Noyes. They lived in St. Louis, MO. They were the parents of a son, Frank D. and foster parents of several boys. Alma died 7/21/1979. Harry died in 1970. They are buried in Lakewood Park cemetery, St. Louis co., MO. Alma's Obituary
