Formation Was
originally a part of Cherokee township but was re-organized separately
in 1868.
Early settlers Dr. Edward W. Parker in 1866; D.T.
Gearhart, W.M. and W.W. Morse, and William Croaks in 1867; Mr.
Stevenson and sons and W.M. Snell, 1869.
First Events Birth: Bertha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Parker, June 17, 1870 School: held at the residence of Dr. Parker by Mrs. Parker in 1869 School building: 1871 Residence: a log house built by Dr. Parker in 1866 Religious services: Methodist Episcopal in the school house in 1871 Fatal
accident: Benjamin Myers, 19, shot himself by accident in the autumn of
1888. His arm was amputated and as a result, he died twelve hours later.
Churches Grace Baptist: combined in Spring and Afton townships, organized June 1887.
