1893 Musquakie Indian Census
The census of the Musquakie Indians in Tama county was taken the other day. There was 359 persons living, a decrease of four during the year. There were twenty deaths and sixteen births during the year. Males, 195, females 194. Two Indians have crossed the 100 year line - one being 112 years of age and the other at an even 100, according to the best obtainable authority.

Musquakies Constitute the Bulk of Iowa Indians With 295 - Last 10 Years Has Shown Increase - Eighty Counties Without Indians - Number in Other Counties
Des Moines, July 21. - Iowa has 471 Indians according to the United States census report which was received at Governor Clarke's office yesterday. This is a little less than .002 per cent of the total Indian population of the United States.
Tama county has the bulk of the Indians of this state. There are 295 on the Musquakie reservation. Pottawattamie county has 115 and Madison county has eighteen. Black Hawk, Wayne and Woodbury have eight Indians each. The Indian population in other counties follows: Scott, four; Lucas, Story and Wapello, two each; Davis, Des Moines, Fremont, Jefferson, Lyon, Washington and Webster, one each. Polk county has four Indians. There are eighty counties of Iowa without any Indians.
According to the report the Iowa Indians are almost all full blood. In 1900 this state was reported to have had 382 Indians and in 1890 the number was reported to be 473. But the department explains that previously the census reports on Indians were so carelessly made that there was no dependable data.
Iowa Indians are divided among the tribes as follows: Potawatami, 6; Sauk and Fox, 257; Sioux, 7; Winnebago, 32; not reported, 169.
Of the states Oklahoma reported the greatest number of Indians. There are 74,090 in that state. The total number of Indians in the United States is 265,683.
