October 23, 1942 - December 22, 2024
Roberta Rozell, 82, passed away at UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital on Sunday, Dec 22, 2024, with loved ones holding her hand. An 11:00 AM Funeral Mass will be on Friday, Dec 27, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Fr. Randy Schon presiding. Visitation will begin at 9:30 that morning. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Roberta, the daughter of Frank and Winnie Stone, was born on October 23, 1942 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Heelan Catholic High School in 1960 and attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing, completing her degree in 1963. She earned Master's Degrees from Westmar College and the University of South Dakota.
Her first marriage, in 1963, welcomed three daughters. This marriage ended in divorce. As her daughters grew, the family moved from Sioux City to Grinnell, Iowa. Roberta later moved to Wausau, Wisconsin. Throughout these years, she served in many professional roles including those as a registered nurse, a nursing instructor and assorted administrative positions.
Roberta returned to Sioux City in the late 90's. While buying groceries at The Boulevard, her shopping cart was bumped by a cart belonging to E. E.(Puck) Rozell. They started visiting and the rest is history. The two were married in January of 1999 and they lived in Elk Point, SD. They loved to travel and visit family and friends in Alabama, Texas, Mexico and Idaho.
Roberta enjoyed giving gifts, especially if they were "from the Q!". She adored the chickens and dogs that she cared for over the years, and loved horses ("I always wanted a horse!"). She never met a baby or toddler without oohing and aahing about all of the cuteness each little one possessed. Her witty sense of humor was a hallmark of her personality.
Roberta is survived by her daughters Teresa (Keith) Bradley of Omaha, Beth Davis of Denver, and Kathy (Jim) Verschoor of Sioux City; grandchildren Joseph (Taylor) Verschoor of Waukee, IA, Natalie Verschoor of Des Moines, Savanna and Ava Bradley of Omaha; brother-in-law Ray Sundquist, nieces Megan Brown and Deb (Tim) O'Malley; great nieces Olivia, Katherine, Abigail, Sophia and Samantha (Sparkle); and February's great-granddaughter-to-be "Little Roberta".
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Puck Rozell, her sister Carol Sundquist and her son-in-law Tim Davis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Roberta's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools.
Our family wishes to thank the many caregivers at UnityPoint who took such good care of mom during her last days. They include Jane in Radiology, the ER doctor and nurses and the third floor crew. God bless your patient, tender kindness!
