Lawton Couple Celebrate 61st Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. David Metcalf, who live with their daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Day, on a farm near Lawton, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Saturday.
Married in Pennsylvania, the couple came to Iowa by train in 1873 and settled near Hornick on an 80-acre farm purchased from a railroad company at $4 an acre. Since that time they have farmed in various places in Woodbury County and lived five years in Sioux City. Mr. Metcalf worked as a carpenter for several years.
Heavy snow in the vicinity of the farm prevented a family reunion, but the 10 living children sent telegrams and made telephone calls congratulating the couple, both of whom are 82 years old.
The children are Mrs. Minnie Morton of Smithland, Rev. M.L. Metcalf of Sioux City, Edgar Metcalf of Moville, Mrs. Edward Seward of Mapleton, Mrs. Lura Bower of Minneapolis, Mrs. Elma Engle of Sibley and Miss Harriet Metcalf of Lawton.
(Married 16 Jan 1875- Elizabeth & David)
