Good morning Ken,
Thank you for reading and replying to my post.
I am curious about the BELT family but my primary interest is the REED line.
ARGALUS REED was my great grandfather. Farnum REED (who married Miranda BELT) was one of his sons by his 1st. marriage. Argalus H. REED has been one *BIG MYSTERY*. I was SHOCKED when I found him in the 1885 Winn. Co. IA census. Everyone in our family has been told that he, no doubt. died in S. Dakota, probably killed by Indians that he had a trading post in Pierre SD and was probably the only "white man"there!!
I made a trip there to see if I verify that, but came up empty. I did find records from both Beatle Co. and Moody Co. SD of land purches he had made prior to ca. 1880........ then he disappears. His 2nd. wife re marries and moves to Scottland and no one ever hears another word about him, so you can imagine my surprise when I just by chance find him living with his son, Farnum Reed, Listed as age 77 Winnebago Co. in 1885. I would love to find some hard proof of his demise, perhaps a burial site an obit or something. I'm 76 yrs. old and would like to be able to fit this "piece of the puzzle" together!!
I've probably bored you with all this, just hoping perhaps someone will be able to help.
Thanks again,
Jeanne(REED)Gaylord
