David B Johnson was the son of Moses Johnson and Frances "Fannie" Herbert. He was the grandson of John Johnston and Margaret Bishop. He was born on 28 Dec 1815 in Greene Co., PA. He married Elizabeth "Eliza" Morris on 28 Feb 1841.
Eliza was the daughter of Thomas Morris and Martha Hughes also from Greene County, PA. Eliza had four sisters and one brother. Her sister Phoebe Morris married William Cree. Charlotte married John T. Miller. Mary Ann married Hiram Heaton Black who also lived in Washington County and Sarah married William Cochran. Her brother James married a Lydia G. and died in Ohio. Martha Hughes father was James Hughes who guarded George Washington during the Revolutionary War as a member of the Commander in Chief's Guard. He was married to Cassandra Dunn.
The family moved to Washington County about 1860 from Pennsylvania and lived in Centre Township and had a farm in Jackson Township section 23. Eliza died before 1867. David B Johnson died 7 Aug 1874 a the age of 58. For both Eliza and David the burial site is unknown except that we know he was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery with no marker. We attempted to purchase stones for the family but cannot find where the burial sites are.
David B and Eliza had 5 children Hughes Herbert (1841-1887), Franklin Burleigh (1844-1917), Newton Tompkins (1846-1883), Amanda Morris (1849-1920) also buried at Woodlawn according to Obit-no marker and James Knox (1853-1892). Eliza also born in 1815 died in 1867 of TB and David B married Sarah M. Barnes 14 March 1867 in Washington County, Iowa.
Hughes Herbert married Amanda Nichols from Georgetown, Grant County, Wisconsin on 12 Nov 1877. They moved to Webster City, Hamilton County Iowa and had two daughters. Grace Mabel was born 10 Jan 1879 in Webster City and died in 1968. Blanche Carrye was born 9 Nov 1881 also in Webster City. Blanche died unmarried in 1901 at the age of 20 of TB.
Hughes Herbert was in the Civil War Company A 25th Iowa Infantry. He is buried in the oldest veteran grave at Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Hughes Herbert died in 1887. Grace Mable married Ernest Elias Kneedy and had three children Herbert William (1907-1957) , Grace Isabel (1919-1920)and Robert Hughes Kneedy (1922-2000).
