Lyle Eldon Case of Greenwood Village died in his sleep on August 16, 2012. He was 79.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Ann Kennedy Case, of Greenwood Village, CO; his children Steven Case, of New Canaan, CT; Jeffrey Case, of Des Moines; Kimberly Malek, of Greenwood Village; and seven grandchildren. All loved him deeply.
Lyle was born on May 28, 1933 in Tama, Iowa. He was raised on a farm outside of Tama by his parents, George and Christina, and graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1955 with a Bachelors Degree in Geology. In 1957, he earned a Masters in Geology from the University of Iowa. Lyle began his professional career in 1957 as a staff geologist for Texaco in Liberal, Kansas. By the time he retired from Texaco in 1988, he had worked in a variety of roles relating to oil exploration across the US in Ardmore, OK; Jackson, MS; New Orleans, LA; New York, NY; Midland, TX and Denver, CO. At the time of his retirement, he was the senior exploration manager responsible for the mid-continent US region. Following his retirement, Lyle was an avid traveler, hunter, golfer and woodworker, as well as a talented stained glass craftsman. In addition, he served on the Greenwood Village City Council for eight years during which time the accomplishment he was most proud of was building the tunnel for the Highline Canal under University Boulevard.
In 1997 Lyle was badly injured in a car accident and partially paralyzed. Since that time, he received outstanding assistance from his second family at Craig Hospital and his private nursing staff. During this time and in spite of his injury, Lyle considered himself a lucky man, rich in the love of his family and his many friends who visited frequently.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 13 at Trinity United Presbyterian Church fellowship room followed by a gathering of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Craig Hospital Foundation.
