Lawrence “Larry” Anderson, 89, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Veterans Administration CLC.
Larry was born June 19, 1922, to Minnie and Arthur Anderson in Des Moines, Iowa. Larry lived in Des Moines most of his life before moving to Carlisle, Iowa, in 1968. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII as a radio man and communications officer. Larry attended the University of Iowa and Drake University. He married Beulah Brooks in 1948, and worked as a salesman dealing with finance, investments, and insurance.
Larry was very active in volunteer projects. He was the president of the Easter Seals Association, Chairman of the Polk County Crippled Children and Adults Association, and Commander of the American Legion. He was a singer with the American Union of Swedish Singers, the Norden Singers, and the Senior Singers. He volunteered his time at the Veterans Hospital and worked at the Powell Chemical Dependency Center as a counselor.
Larry was an avid sports enthusiast and a life long follower of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the New York Yankees. He was a member of Grand View Lutheran Church and Scandinavian groups.
Larry’s survivors include his children, Marla (Jack) Lindquist of Naperville, Illinois, Julie (Pat) Ward of Mission Viejo, California, and Gil Anderson of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beulah; his son, Chase; his brothers, Iner and Marvin; and his sister, Esther.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Grand View Lutheran Church, 2930 E 13th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50316, followed by burial at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Larry touched many lives and will be missed by all.
