Abraham Jewett was born in Halifax, England on August 6, 1822. He was married while still a resident there, father to two children, prior to his wifes death. Coming to the US in 1849, settling in Steubenville, Ohio, and later 2nd married to Mrs Ellen Waddington. Moving to Germantown, Pennsylvania, and in 1861, they came to Iowa, locating on a farm in Wapello county, one mile NW of Chillicothe. This union was blessed with four children, one son and 3 daughters. One daughter proceeding him in death. His wife died March 25, 1903. Abraham was a 2 year member of Company L of the 8th Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War. Surving him is 1 son, Josie Hewett of California, three step-sons, James Waddington, William Waddington, and John Waddington. Two daughters, Mrs Mary Nelson of Batavia, and Mrs Ella Culbertson of Eddyville: she and her daughter, Miss Alma, caring for him. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Mr Jewett passed on October 6, 1910 at the age of 88 years. Funeral was held at the ME Church Chillicothe.
