Carrie Carolyn Hayes, 94, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Sept. 21, 1991, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma.
She was born July 17, 1897, in Lake City to Levi T. and Francena Allee Woody. She married Rev. Myron E. Hayes on Sept. 8, 1920, in Oskaloosa. He died Dec. 11, 1973.
She graduated from Lynnville High School in 1915 and attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She taught school and worked in a Lynnville bank for six years. A homemaker, she and her husband lived in Keosauqua and Keokuk before moving to Creston 1942. He was minister of the First United Methodist Church in Creston until 1951. They lived in Ottumwa and Sigourney before returning to Creston in 1962 after retirement. In 1977, she moved to Superbia Retirement Village in Oklahoma City and to its nursing center in March of 1990. While in Oklahoma City, she wrote and published a novel, "A Miniature Faith". She was a member of the United Methodist Church, a life member of United Methodist Women, served as a UMW officer in the Ottumwa District for six years and was a member of the PEO Sisterhood.
She is survived by two daughters, Helen Sandage of Oklahoma City and Hope I. Hensen of Littleton, Colo.; five grandsons and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband; three sisters, Myrtle Houghtaling, Edith McCuen and Sylvia Stout; and a brother, Elton H. Woody.
The service was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 1991 at Keating-Lindsay Funeral Home in Creston, the Rev. Thomas Woodin officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Creston.
