V.A. "Tommy" Thomas, 73, of 502 N. Court, Ottumwa, died at 4:10 a.m. Nov. 19, 1918, in Wapello County to James Calvin and Ella Houston Thomas. He married Jenny G. Moffit on Jan. 12, 1950, in Memphis, MO.
A resident of Ottumwa most of his life he was an employee of John Morrell & Company and had been an independent insurance agent for 45 years. He has served in the Pacific with the Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Gregory A. of Ottumwa; three daughters, Joanne Reed of Ottumwa, Susan Talbott of Morris, Ill., and Karen White of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert and Paul Thomas of Cantril; and two sisters, Hildred Wells of Ottumwa and Marjorie Pierce of Keosauqua.
He was preceded in death by a grandson; a brother, Avin; and a sister, Mamie Sheets.
The service was held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 1991 at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with Vince Homan of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Ottumwa Cemetery.
