HAWARDEN, IOWA ~ Opal Lorraine Keiser, 101, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden, where she had been a resident for less than 2 weeks.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden with Rev. Joshua Lowe of Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMS officiating. Inurnment will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Hawarden. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. or at the luncheon at Rooster’s following the committal service. Opal Lorraine (Fickbohm) Keiser was born on the family farm in Union County, South Dakota on May 21, 1923, to George and Inez (Shuck) Fickbohm. She was the 11th child out of 12 children.

She married Raymond Keiser on May 28, 1942. They had one child, Gloria Jean. Opal worked in food service all of her life, baking delicious carmel rolls and pies. She never had the opportunity to attend High School, but she obtained her GED through mail correspondence in the 1960’s. She was baptized and attended Lutheran Churches all her life.

Opal is survived by her daughter, Gloria Jean Green of Hawarden; grandchildren and their wives, Jeff Green and Judi of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mike Green and Liz also of Sioux Falls, and Steven Green and Molly of Orange City, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond on July 10, 1978; son-in-law, Larry Green on February 17, 2020; and her siblings and their spouses.
