On October 21, 1983, Twyla was united in marriage with Curtis Van Schepen at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. After Curtis was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps, the couple moved back to Sheldon where they welcomed sons Dan and Dave.
Twyla had her own hair business in Sheldon inside of Vink Furniture. In 1989, the family moved to Hull where they would welcome sons Cory, Cole, and Trey.
