HAWARDEN, IOWA – LeRoy Lewis Ross, 86, of Hawarden, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Westwood Specialty Care in Sioux City, Iowa.Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 13, 2024, at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa with Pastor Jean Layton officiating. Burial with military rites by the US Navy Honor Guard will be at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, followed by Masonic Funeral Rites at 7:00 p.m. by the Jeptha Lodge 121 of Hudson, South Dakota.
LeRoy Lewis Ross was born November 3, 1937 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Lorne LeRoy and Helen Lucille (Beaulieu) Ross. He graduated from Akron High School in 1956 and served in the United States Navy from January 1957 to December of 1960. LeRoy’s mother passed away while he was in the Navy. Following his service, LeRoy worked on Interstate 29. LeRoy married Elinda “Linde” Gerdes on June 5, 1965 at the Associated Church in Hawarden. He graduated from Westmar College in June of 1969. LeRoy eventually started his own Tax Service which he ran for 40 years in Hawarden, Iowa.
LeRoy enjoyed doing woodworking and doing gardening. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, with membership at the Jeptha Lodge 121 of Hudson, South Dakota.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Linde of Hawarden; 3 children, Brad (Rhonda) Ross of Lennox, South Dakota, Julie (Shon) Sawyer of Hurley, South Dakota, and JoLynn (Martin) Ahmann of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Dillon Sawyer, Halle Sawyer, Ashton Ross, Carter Ross, Benjamin Ahmann, and Quintin Ahmann; 2 great-grandchildren, Knox Nielsen and Ada Sawyer.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents.
