Mr. Brian Hofmeyer, age 64, of Hospers, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at his home after a year-long battle with cancer.

There will be a funeral service on Thursday, August 1, at 10:00am, at the church with the Pastor Jeffrey Whitt officiating. Interment will follow the service at the Hospers Cemetery near Hospers. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is in charge of arrangements.
Brian Dale, the son of Robert Lee and Jolene Caroline (Hoffs) Hofmeyer, was born on July 21, 1960, in Orange City. He grew up on his parents’ farm northwest of Hospers and attended Floyd Valley Schools, graduating in 1979. He briefly attended Iowa State University until returning to the farm to help his father, who was fighting cancer.
On August 2, 1985, he was united in marriage to his best friend and the love of his life, Melissa “Lisa” Lynn Kiel, at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. They made their home on a farm near Hospers, eventually settling on the ‘homeplace’, where they raised their three children. In his younger years, Brian sold Pioneer seed corn, before establishing a feedlot in the late eighties. At the time of Brian’s retirement in 2020, Hofmeyer Feedlot was home to more than three thousand head of cattle.
Brian was a member of New Hope Evangelical Free Church in Orange City and a former member of Hospers Presbyterian Church. His faith was very important to him, and the way he showed unconditional love and encouragement to anyone he met was an inspiration. Whether it was someone close to him or a stranger, he always greeted others with a warm smile, was intently interested in what they had going on in their lives, and had a way of making everyone laugh. He genuinely enjoyed connecting with others, and always had time to visit with his family, friends, and customers, often over a cup of coffee or a cold beverage at the end of the day.
In earlier years, he looked forward to taking his family on their annual summer vacations, and more recently, taking trips to Florida to see his daughter’s family and to Kansas to see his son’s family. He rarely missed one of his children’s games or activities, and enjoyed many weekend trips to the Twin Cities to watch his boys play college football at Bethel University. More recently, he regularly attended the activities of his grandchildren. He also liked watching sports with his loved ones, especially if Iowa State or the Vikings were playing.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 39 years, Lisa, of Hospers; three children and their families, Amber and Jake Kuiper, and their children, Baylen, Emersyn, Mckinley, and Case, all of Naples, Florida; Joseph “Joe” and Madison Hofmeyer, and their children, Ainsley, Collins, Truett, and Hollace, all of Orange City; and Jason and Alison “Ali” Hofmeyer, and their children, Charlotte “Lottie”, Eleanor “Laney”, and Callan, all of Overland Park, Kansas; two sisters and their husbands, Debra and Jerry Verhoef, of Hull; and Brenda and Donald Truhe, of Yankton, South Dakota; three brothers and their wives, Steven and Barbara Hofmeyer, of Auburn, Indiana; Robbie “Rob” and Heather Hofmeyer, of Ireton; and Brad and Melissa “Missy” Hofmeyer, of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; his mother-in-law, Geraldine “Geri” Kiel, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Shawnee and Charlie Jakober, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Vernon Kiel; and a brother-in-law, Kevin Mather.
Memorials will be given to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice.
