Gerrit Hart Beyer was born 11 Jan 1841(actually 20 Jan 1842) Veenendaal Gelderland Netherlands and died 29 Nov 1924 Orange City IA. His parents were Hartger Beijer 1812 Veenendaal Neth died 1860 and Maria Rap 1816 Bennekom Ede Gelderland Neth died -1848. Gerrit married Jantje Vander Steeg

Her parents were Gerrit Lammertsen Vander Steeg born 23 Jan 1820 Ede, Gelderland Neth died 30 Dec 1900 Orange City IA; and Jacobje van de Hoef born 28 Dec 1818 Ede Gelderland Netherlands died 13 Sep 1868 Marion County IA. (In her birth record she was born as Jantje de Steeg born to Gerrit de Steeg and Jacobje van de Hoef evidently an error by records transcriber.)

—Died Sunday-
Gerrit Beyer, one of the few living who came to Sioux county in 1870, passed beyond at four o'clock Sunday morning from a complications of troubles resulting from his advanced age. His daughter, Miss Bertha, who has kept the home for him since Mrs. Beyer’s death five years ago, and three others of the children have been with him constantly the past few weeks.
Mr. Beyer was born In Veenendaal, Gelderland, the Netherlands January 11, 1841. coming to America with his father, two sisters and one brother in 1857. His mother died when he was four years old. They settled at Pella, remaining there four years but then joined a party of travelers who went to Oregon by way of the Isthmus of Panama. But after four years of hardship and strife they returned to Pella and in 1870 Mr. Beyer moved to Sioux County where he assisted to break prairie for Mr. Pas.
In 1872 he was married to Miss Jane Vande Steeg and took possession of his homestead where ten children were born to them, two sons and eight daughters. Mr. and Mrs. Beyer endured all the hardships known in those pioneer days when advantages and comforts could not be obtained. After 3 years they moved to Orange City where Mrs. Beyer died April 29, 1915 there daughters having preceded her to the Great Beyond. Seven children and nineteen grandchildren survive to mourn the death of a much beloved father and grandfather.
Mr. Beyer’s only sister is Mrs. A Veenstra of Perry but on account of her age at 82 yrears, she was unable to be present at the funeral which was held Wednesday afternoon at the American Reformed church.

Alton Democrat May 8, 1915 Mrs. G. Beyer died at her home at Orange City on April 29th of apoplexy at the age of 66 years. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit Vande Steeg and was born in the Netherlands on July 15, 1849. In 1857 she came to the United States and on May 14. 1870 she became a Sioux county resident . Two years later, in June , she was untied in marriage to Gerrit Beyer. This union was blessed with ten children, seven of whom, with the father, mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother. The funeral services were held on Monday of this week from the Beyer home and the Reformed church. The services were In charge of Rev. Engelsman. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery. The following are the surviving children: Mrs. Ed Franken of Tabor, Alberta, Canada; Dr. Hart Beyer of Pittsville, WI; Mrs. B. H. Masselink of Grand Rapids MI.; Mrs. G. Vogelaar of Litchville, ND .; Miss Bertha of Orange City, Mrs. W. Van Steenbergen of Sioux Center, and Gerrit Beyer Jr. of Orange City. (Note: The Sioux County Cemetery Index lists Jane V. Beyer born 15 Jun 1850 died 29 Apr 1915 buried West Lawn Cemetery Orange City IA.)
