Religious affiliation: Devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Persia, IA; led the youth group for many years, coordinating the Ladies Aid and World Day of Prayer, and serving as church organist; she also served as a substitute organist at United Lutheran and the Presbyterian churches in Shelby, IA and often finished a service at one church to also play at the Sunday service at another.

Employment: After college, she worked at Henningsen Construction, Des Moines, IA; after her marriage in 1955, she became a farmer’s wife, helping on the farm and raising their children. As a young wife, Marian was encouraged by members of the community to begin teaching piano lessons, so she did so in the church parsonage for what became a 60+ year career teaching students how to play the piano.
Hobbies/Interests: Besides teaching local students to play the piano, Marian was active with the Iowa Federation of Music, serving as president and coordinating many competitions around the state; after her retirement from teaching, she enjoyed gardening, and kept active by walking around the farm; loved her barn kitties; was a great cook and baker.
