The announcement of the death of Hardin Wiser, superintendent of the county poor farm, on Friday morning, February 22nd, was a surprise and shock to all. If we had been called to select the man having the strongest constitution and the most vigorous health, it would have been H. Wiser. Indeed he was a picture of health and good feelings. But it would seem that the best health is a drawback in cases of pneumonia. He was in town on Saturday the 16th, and took a chill, and hurriedly went down until death, about 2 a m., Friday the 22nd.

Mr. Wiser was born in Kentucky, and was ages about thirty-six years. He lived for a time in Illinois, and came in 1877 to this county, settling in the vicinity of Eugene. His father was killed in Kentucky during the fierce war days by some rebel raiders, and Mr. Wiser was, as a result, a lover of the union. He leaves a wife and one child. His mother is still living, also three brothers and one sister. Mr. Wiser has had charge of the poor farm for six years, and has administered the affairs faithfully and successfully. He served the county so well in this position that it was awarded to him over others who had bid under him.

His death is a serious loos to the county, since his experience was valuable. The funeral took place from the Wishard Chapel on Sabbath, the service conducted by Rev. W. Irwin SCOTT. The whole community attended, and seemed bowed in sorrow, and many followed the remains to the Eugene cemetery. Mr. WISER was noted as being a good citizen, and of uniform gentlemanly demeanor. The ritual of the I.O.O.F. was followed in the closing service.
