Verlene HALM Dies At Age Seventeen
Verlene HALM passed away Friday night at the Iowa University hospital after a long illness, caused by a blood disease. She became ill several months ago and was taken to Des Moines, where she remained for some time. After returning home she became well enough to continue her school work with the rest of the Junior class by means of a communicating system. She also attended several social events including the Iowa State Basketball tournament at Des Moines. Only a few days later, she again became seriously ill and was rushed to the Iowa City hospital. There she contracted pneumonia and died.
Funeral services were held in the Christian Church Monday afternoon, March 10 with Rev. V. L. LUSE in charge. The High School participated in the services. The Girls Sextette sang two numbers "Whispering Hope" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied by Donna FERGUSON and Mrs. Lloyd ENGLAND The remaining ten girls helped with the flowers. Casketbearers were: Bob LUPHER, Alan O'NEAL, Marvin GROUT, Dee ARCHIBOLD, Lloyd GUESS and Jim ENGLAND.
OBITUARY
Verlene Louise HALM was born January 16, 1935, in Union County and departed this life March 7, 1952 at the age of 17 years, 1 month and 20 days.In her early girlhood, she joined the Christian Church in Tingley Iowa.
One brother, Dean, preceded her in death, in infancy.
She leaves to mourn her father and mother and one brother, Marvin; one grandmother and other relatives, one special friend, Rex PAYTON, and a host of friends.
