Ruby Rosalee Jackson, daughter of Elmer M. and Maggie L. Goldner, was born Feb. 25, 1920, at Ellston, Iowa and departed this life May 30, 1981, at the Ringgold County hospital, Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 61 years, three months and five day.

She moved with her parents to the Kellerton area in 1932, graduating from the Kellerton Public School in 1937. She then furthered her education at Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, and taught in the Ringgold County area schools for several years.

On June 1, 1941, she was united in marriage with Dean M. Jackson, in Maryville, Mo. They were to have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary May 31. They established their home on a farm two miles north of Kellerton, where they spent their entire married life. To this union were born five children: Richard, Joy, June, Donald, and Donna.

Ruby was baptized to in the Ellston Methodist Church at the age of 10, later moving her membership to the Kellerton Methodist Church. She was active in many organizations in the county and state, including the American Legion Auxiliary, P.E.O., Rebekah Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, and Amateur Iowa Artist. When the children were young, she was active in church and school activities, and was a 4-H leader for many years.

She was a living wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her main love was her family and she enjoyed family gatherings. Her own personal interest was painting. She could see the beauty in nature, and had the ability to put it on canvas, winning some awards. She could also see the beauty in people and appreciate their finer qualities. In adversity, she never asked “why”.

She and Dean enjoyed doing many things together. One of those was traveling, which they have done extensively. The latest was a historical tour of the eastern United States.

She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer M. Goldner; a son, Donald, who died on April 2, 1974; and an infant grandson, Aaron Boles.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dean; and her four children and their families; Richard and Camille Jackson, Racinda and Randall of Kellerton; Joy and Alan Stout, Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Jonathan of Newton; June and Robert Boles, Crystal and Ales of Lamoni; Donna and David Mooney of Maquoketa; also her mother, Maggie L. Goldner of Kellerton; a sister, Mildred and husband Bruce Carmichael of Lebanon, Mo.; and a host of relatives and friends.

“For yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision; but today, well lived, makes yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope.”

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 PM Tuesday, June 2, 1981 at the Kellerton United Methodist Church by Rev. Walter Zarr. Organist was Mrs. Weldon Meadows and Vocalist was James Thaden.

Casketbearers were Monte Akers, Merlyn Allen, Bill Daughton, Darrell Powers, Francis Virden, and Warren Hanthorne. Burial was in Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton. Rhoades-Wilson Funeral Home was in charge.
