OBITUARY - Mrs. Mary Ann HAIGHT
Mary Ann MORRIS was born in Indiana March 20th, 184, and died Nov. 18th, 1909, aged 65 years, 7 months and 28 days. She was united in marriage to James M. DAVIS March 13th, 1861. To this union were born eight children-seven girls and one boy-three of whom died in infancy. Those living are Mesdames Mary PEERY of Ellston, Louisa McKEE of Haigler, Neb., Dora GUY of New Castle, Neb., Louie WATTS of Sweet Water, Tex., and Maggie NELSON of Tingley, all of whom were present at the time of her death except Mrs. GUY, who had returned to her home ten days ago. Her step daughter, Mrs. Sarah WHISLER, of North Platt, Neb., was also present. She was married to Frank HAIGHT Nov. 3rd, 1885. After his death, twenty years ago, she moved to Tingley with her daughter, Maggie, with whom she made her home until her death. At an early age she joined the Baptist church, but later united with the Christian church of Eugene. She was one of the charter members of the Tingley Church of Christ, and a faithful, consistent disciple of Christ, always abounding in good works and loyalty to the Master whom she loved. The funeral services took place from the Church of Christ Friday morning and were conducted by Rev. J.P. LUCAS in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends, after which the body was laid to rest in Eugene cemetery. Truly we can say:
"Theres a pall o'er the dear old homestead,
The light of its altar hath fled;
Our mother - its ministering angel,
Lies sleeping, the sleep of the dead;
So rest saintly face on thy pillow,
Long vigils thy loved ones shall keep;
Christ seals thy white brow with His promise,
And giveth thee beautiful sleep."-Tingley Vindicator, Thursday, November 25th, 1909-
