December 15, 1940 ~ November 25, 2010HUNTLEY – Sue BARBOUR, 69, of Sun City, Huntley and Summerfield, Fla., passed away Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010.
She was born Dec. 15, 1940, in Webster City, Iowa, to Wendell and Maybelle (STEELE) THOMPSON [granddaughter of Raymer and Emma (GARARD) STEELE of Maloy]. She was raised and educated in Knoxville, Iowa, graduating from Knoxville High School. She attended Drake University in Des Moines and University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. She was a registered nurse by profession.
She was united in marriage to Alex V. BARBOUR on Aug. 28, 1960, in Knoxville. The couple, who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, made their home in Iowa City, Milwaukee and Minneapolis before moving to the Schaumburg and Elgin areas. In 2000, the couple returned to Knoxville for six years and in 2006, they moved to Huntley.
She especially enjoyed her time with family and friends and was an avid bridge player. She also had a love for dogs and raised and showed Yorkshire terriers for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Alex of Huntley; her children, Lisa BARBOUR-SANCHEZ of Knoxville, Iowa, Alex (Elizabeth) BARBOUR of Crystal Lake and Timothy BARBOUR of Plymouth, Minn.; her grandchildren, Joseph, Emily, Hannah, Sam, Alex, Ryan, Madeline and Jack; an expected great-grandchild to Emily; and her sisters, Kay DAINTY of Knoxville and Ann (Donald) McCLURE of Seattle.
The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, until the Funeral Mass is celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley IL. Burial will be Dec. 15 in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yorkshire Terrier Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
