OBITUARY - EMMA V. SCOTT.
Emma Virginia, eldest daughter of Morris and Mary RECTOR, was born January 8, 1855, near Greenfield, Green county, Illinois, and departed this life near Mount Ayr, December 31, 1939, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 24 days.
With her parents in 1874 she moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, when this section of the county was a broad prairie.
On December 23, 1875, she was united in marriage to James E. SCOTT of Grant City, Mo. To this union nine children were born, four of them having preceded her in death. The surviving children are Alva L. SCOTT of Yakima, Wash.; James Eldon SCOTT of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Carrie MILLER of Hatfield, Mo.; Mrs. Ollie HUMPHREYS of Mount Ayr, Iowa; and Mrs. Ethel BAGLEY of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
At an early age she united with the Jackson Advant Christian church of which she remained a member until her death.
She had been in failing health for several years and though her death came as a surprise it was not entirely unexpected. The last year of her suffering was intense, but the end came peacefully.
Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her departure, three sisters, twelve grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Her husband preceded her in death November 5, 1912.
Funeral services were held at the Fletchall church near Grant City, Mo., conducted by Rev. C. J. MAMILTON (sic), of Mount Ayr, Iowa, and she was laid to rest beside her husband at that place to await the final summons of the resurrection.
Card of Thanks.
We wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all who so kindly assisted us in the sickness and death of our mother. Also for the beautiful floral offerings. -The children.
