GOOD CITIZEN ENDS HIS LIFE

Funeral Services for John FERBER Held Sunday
at Methodist Church

Profound sorrow filled the hearts of relatives, friends and neighbors about noon on the Fourth of July when it was learned that John FERBER, a life-long resident of Ringgold county, had ended his life by hanging. Mr. FERBER was in his usual frame of mind in the morning and busied himself during the forenoon in cleaning up about the barn and making some repairs. He visited with friends who stopped to exchange greetings during the forenoon and it was not until the noon hour, when Mrs. FERBER went to the barn, that it was learned of his tragic death. Neighbors responded immediately and a physician was summoned. Examination revealed that life had passed out and by direction of the physician the body was taken down and removed to the home.

The coroner, Dr. S. W. DeLONG of Tingley, was away on his vacation and G. A. TENNANT, justice of the peace, was called. Since it was a plain case of suicide not inquest was held.

No reason is known for the rash act. Mr. FERBER was an industrious, hard working man, who provided well for his family, and who was held in high esteem by all his acquqaintances. It is said that he had been worried on account of not having steady employment recently, but any attempt to find the reason which led him to end his life must, as in all cases, result int failure.

The funeral was held Sunday after noon at 2:30 at the Methodist church and as conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. S. MENOHER, who in the funeral discourse referred to the admirable character of Mr. FERBER whose honesty, industry and conscientuous efforts to perform the tasks committed to him commanded the respect of all. The beautiful ritualistic service of the I. O. O. F. was conducted at the church, the part of the noble grand being taken by Alva CAMPBELL and that of the chaplain by T. S. RHOADES. Floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Glen ROBINSON, Mrs. E. B. WALL, Leland DALBEY and Franklin SPURRIER, the accompaniments being played by Miss Maurine WHITE. The flower girls were Miss Bernetta ROE and Miss Mary DINKEL. Pall bearers were Geo. D. MOFFATT, C. Z. ROE, Harry HETZEL, M. W. SCHARDEIN, Sherman McCULLOUGH and Charles HORNE. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery [Mount Ayr].

The following obituary was read at the funeral service.

John H. FERBER, son of Herman and Amelia FERBER, was born in Cedar county, Nebraska, December 5, 1875, and died at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, July 4th, 1930, at the age of 54 years, six months and 29 days. On July 25, 1900, he was married to Etta CASE. To this union were born three children - Mrs. Warren DRAKE of Liberty township and Ruth and Floyd at home.

He lived in and near Mount Ayr most of his life, having come to this county in 1885. He was a member of the M. E. church for several years and was also a member of the I. O. O. F. and Modern Woodman lodges. He was quiet and reserved and conscientious in all he did and was a kind and loving husband and father. Besides his immediate family he leaves three brothers and four sisters, two grandsons and a host of friends to mounr his death.

NOTE: Amelia FERBER, John H.'s mother, died on October 11, 1891, at the age of 46 years, 8 months and 1 day. Herman FERBER, father of John H., died at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 4 days on February 17, 1904. Etta (CASE) FERBER was born in 1876 and died in 1934. Floyd FERBER, son of John H. and Etta (CASE), was born in 1914 and died in 1955. All interments at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa.
