GOOD CITIZEN CALLED HOME

Z. Fender, for Fifty Years a Resident of Ringgold County, Died Thursday.

After an illness of several years' duration, Z[achariah] FENDER, one of Ringgold county's best known and most highly respected citizens, passed away last Thursday at his home in Tingley. Mr. FENDER suffered a stroke of paralysis several years ago, which incapacitated him for work and he retired from the farm in Liberty township, where most of his life in the county was spent, and moved to Tingley. During the closing years of his life he constantly declined in health. On Saturday preceding his death he sufferd another stroke and it was at once realized the end was near. The children were summoned and were at the bedside when the end came.

The death of Mr. FENDER marks the passing of another one of the stalwart citizens of Ringgold county; a man of honor who exemplied in his every day life the principles of the christian religion. He was a successful farmer and those who know him best testify to his sterling qualities as a man. A kind and loving father, a worthy citizen and a loyal friend; always interested in the welfare of the community in which he lived, he was respected and loved by all.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church in Tingley, conducted by the pastor, and the interment was in the Tingley cemetery.

Zachariah FENDER, son of Louis and Jane FENDER, was born February 25th, 1848, in Owens county, Indiana, and passed out of this life June 18th, 1925, aged 77 years, three months and twenty-one days.

At the age of five years he moved with his parents to Mercer county, Illinois, where he grew to manhood.

He was united in marriage to Fanny DELITT in the year 1867. To this union five children were born: J. Wesley, of Mount Ayr; Jonas F., of Indianola; Harry E., of Tingley; Mrs. Dora BENNETT, of Letcher, S.D., and Mrs. Edna JOHNSON, of Letcher, S.D.

In the year 1875 he with his family moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, where he has since resided. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church at High Point in 1884, under the pastorate of Rev. W. B. THOMPSON.

In the fall of 1918 he moved to Tingley, Iowa, where he has since resided.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie (DELITT) FENDER, who passed into the great beyond October 4th, 1923.

He is survived by five children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. Nancy BURNS, of Kellerton, Iowa.

Honored and respected by all who knew him he was always willing and ready to support any good christian cause.

NOTE: Fannie (DELITT) FENDER, wife of Zachariah FENDER, was born October 24, 1845, and died in Ringgold County October 4, 1923 with interment beside Zachariah, Tingley Cemetery, Tingley, Ringgold County, Iowa. John Wesley FENDER, son of Fannie (DELITT) and Zachariah FENDER, died September 7, 1929 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Harry E., son of Fannie (DELITT) and Zachariah FENDER, was born in 1880 and died in 1937 with interment at Tingley Cemetery, Ringgold County, Iowa. Jonas FENDER, son of Fannie (DELITT) and Zachariah, was born in 1872 and died in 1945, with interment at Tingley Cemetery.
