OBITUARY - JOHN EDWARD FENDER.
John FENDER died last Tuesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joe STEVENSON, south of Clearfield. He had just arrived there that morning from Kansas City. John Edward FENDER was the eldest son of John and Amanada FENDER, and was born August 24, 1856, near Edgwood (sic), Ill., coming to Iowa with the family in 1877, and settling on a farm near Beaconsfield. In 1880 he was united in marriage to Ela (sic) May MATHANY, of Beaconsfield. Five children were born to them: Josie Mae STEVENSON of Clearfield; Andrew A. of Beaconsfield; Sammy E. and Edward J. of Orange City, [Kan.?]; and Merzetta HILLDBRAN of Beaconsfield, at whose home he had made his home since the death of his wife in 1914, until the past few years, when he has been visiting among the other children.
He leaves to mourn his loss all his children, five sisters: Mrs. Kate HAYS of Bedford; Mrs. Elizabeth HAYES and Mrs. Lidie AMES of Ratton, N.M.; Mrs. Belle MUNYON of Alva, Okla.; two brothers, Lincoln FENDER of Silver City, Wash., and Samuel FENDER of Colorado; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Huston and Della Mae SIVERLY of Clearfield.
He has made his home continually near Beaconsfield except for a few years spent in Kansas and Oklahoma.
About the year 1890 he was converted and joined the United Brethen (sic) church at Beaconsfield and has been a good christian, kind and loving father, devoting all his time with his children the last few years. He had been in poor health the past four years, but was a patient sufferer and passed away at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 12 days.
Funeral services were held in Beaconsfield Thursday afternoon. Interment in the Oliver Cemetery [near Ellston, Ringgold County, Iowa]. J. Ralph CREW, Clearfield undertaker, in charge of the burial.
NOTE: Ella M. (MATHANY) FENDER, wife of John Edward, was born in 1864 and died in 1914 with interment beside he husband, Oliver Cemetery.
