OBITUARY - Mrs. WESLEY FENDER.

Emily Jane DOUGHTY, daughter of James and Frances DOUGHTY, was born in Fairfield, Jefferson county, Iowa, April 13, 1864, and departed from this life Thursday, April 20, 1933, at her home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, at the age of 69 years and seven days.

On the 29th of January, 1885, she was married to William Ellsworth LONG of Ringgold county, Iowa. To this union four children were born - one son, Marion Henry, who died at the age of two years, and three daughters, Clara Iowa WILKINSON of Rice township, Bessie Mae BARBORKA of Chicago, and Blanche Iola SWAIN of Des Moines.

Mr. LONG died February 11, 1909. On December 2, 1920, Mrs. LONG was married to Mr. Wesley FENDER and death also took him September 7, 1929.

Mrs. FENDER has been in failing health for many years, but never at any time did she complain of her misfourtune, and seemed always to derive some pleasure from life. She was a great lover of good books and flowers, and retained this interest almost until the end. She kept in touch with current events and when she was unable to read herself, she would listen to someone else with intense interest. Only a short time before her death she was planning for the ordering of seeds and bulbs and looking forward with enthusiasm to having them planted.

In girlhood Mrs. FENDER united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has been faithful to her profession through all these years. She has been a member of the church in Mount Ayr since 1919.

Besides her three daughters, she leaves seven grandchildren, three sisters, one brother and a host of relatives and friends.

While it is hard for her loved ones to give her up, they are comforted in the thought that she is free from her affliction, which burdened her for so long, and in the rememberance of the splendid patience and fortitude with which she endured it all.

The remarkable love and devotion between her and her daughters was inspiring and beautiful. She preserved her cheery disposition, and, sustained by the loving attention of her dear ones and friends, gave us all an example of christian fortitude.

She commanded the respect and admiration of all those who came in contact with her. She was gentle and retiring, yet her influence for all that was best and noblest in life was apparent.

In her life of loving service, faith and trust in God, patient and uncomplaining waiting for the call to come home, there is left to her family and friends a legacy that is of greater value than all earthly treasures. Her work on earth is finished and she has entered into the rest that remaineth for the people of God.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. S. MENOHER, and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. The large attenance at the services and many beautiful floral tributes bore silent testimony to the high regard in which the departed was held in the community.
