OBITUARY - MARY (DUDLEY) ECKERMAN

Mary DUDLEY was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, October 14, 1846, and departed this life at the home of her daughter in Tingley, Iowa, November 18, 1928, at the age of 82 years, one month and four days. Her parents died when she was but a small child. She was taken to Ripley county, Indiana, where she was tenderly cared for by her Grandmother RICHARDSON. In the spring of 1861 she and her grandmother came west, settling in Washington county, Iowa. It was here on the 12th day of February, 1867, that she was united in marriage to Isaac ECKERMAN. Four children were born into this home. In 1886 the family moved to Ringgold county, Iowa, settling on a farm near Tingley. The father passed away June 27, 1906. Thereafter the mother remained on the farm, making a home for the remaining children until two weeks ago when she moved with her daughter to Tingley.

On December 3, 1865, she became identified with the Church of Christ and in this faith she lived and died. She maintained her interest in and her contributions to the church even after the feebleness of age overtook her. She was completely wrapped up in her home and her children, who owe her a vast debt of grateful rememberance.

She was stricken last May with a malady which was incurable and fought against it until a few days ago when it became necessary for her to remain bedfast.

Her family consisted of two daughters and two sons, two of which preceded her in death. Ira Claude passed away January 5, 1909, and Sadie M. (Mrs. T. W. DARBYSHIRE) on March 13, 1926. Those surviving her are Eva M. ECKERMAN (Mrs. Wm. ECKERMAN) and D. Earl ECKERMAN, both of Tingley, Iowa. There are also six grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a (host of) neighbors and friends who (mourn) her going and remember.

Funeral services were held at the Tingley Church of Christ at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Clarence EPPARD, and attended by a good sized congregation, attesting to the esteem in which Grandma ECKERMAN was held by our people. Interment was made by the side of her husband in the Tingley cemetery.

NOTE: Isaac ECKERMAN was born April 27, 1848, and died June 27, 1906. Ira Claude, son of Mary (DUDLEY) and Isaac ECKERMAN, was born in 1885 and died on January 5, 1909 with interment at Tingley Cemetery, aged 23 years, 5 months and 23 days. Sadie M. (ECKERMAN) DARBYSHIRE, daughter of Isaac and Mary (DUDLEY) ECKERMAN, was born March 14, 1868, and died March 13, 1926 with interment at Tingley Cemetery. Eva M. ECKERMAN, daughter of Isaac and Mary (DUDLEY) ECKERMAN, was born October 5, 1871, and died April 17, 1932 with interment at Tingley Cemetery. D. Earl ECKERMAN, son of Isaac and Mary (DUDLEY), was born in 1880, and died in 1961 with interment at Tingley Cemetery.
