Dr. Fellows was born November 17, 1938 to Dr. Joseph and Marjorie Reichenbach Fellows in Ames, Iowa. He was a graduate of Ames High School, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa Medical School. He did his orthopaedic residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He was a Captain in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1964 to 1970.

Dr. Fellows began his orthopaedic practice with Doctors Thornton and Blair in 1971. In 1977 he joined Des Moines Orthopaedic Surgeons as a partner. He served as President of Iowa Methodist Medical Staff from 1980 to 1984. He volunteered as Team Doctor for Roosevelt High School for over 20 years. He had a passion for surgery and a love for his family and friends.
