Margaret E. Talbott, 99 of Akron, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare in Hawarden, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Adaville Church in rural Merrill, Iowa. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with Rexwinkel Funeral Home of Akron.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials in Margaret’s name are preferred to the Adaville Church.
Margaret Elaine Philips was born on December 12, 1925 on the family farm in Plymouth County, Iowa to William and Irene (Johnson) Philips. She was baptized at Adaville United Methodist Church and attended country school until the 8th grade. Margaret graduated from Akron High School in 1943 and went on to receive her teaching certificate from Westmar College in Le Mars.
Margaret was united in marriage to Don Talbott on February 25, 1946 at Adaville United Methodist Church. Margaret taught school for a few years before getting married, raising their four children and helping on the farm. They farmed in the Le Mars and Akron area for 43 years. Don passed away in 1992 and Margaret remained on the farm until she moved into Mica Hill Estates in Hawarden just a few years ago.
Margaret was a lifelong member of Adaville United Methodist Church where she was active in her women’s ‘Ruth’ circle. She was a 4-H leader for the Border Belles for over 10 years and was also an active board member for the Akron Care Center. Margaret enjoyed quilting and sewing, making many clothing and household items over the years. She was a wonderful cook and baker, learning much from her mother-in-law. She loved to mow the yard and tend to her large vegetable and flower gardens.
Margaret is survived by three children: Elaine Talbott of Jackson, Mississippi, Emily (Terry) Andringa of Sheldon, Iowa, and George (Linda) Talbott of Alcester, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Rachelle (Michael) Borah, Shane (Wendy) Talbott, Lesley (Nick) Tjaden, and Jacob (Ashley) Andringa; five great grandchildren: Hunter Borah, Payton Borah, Kylie Talbott, Noah Tjaden, and Zoey Tjaden; nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; parents in law, George and Avis (Creekmur) Talbott; husband, Don; son, Fred Talbott; grandson, Evan Andringa; siblings: Richard (Wanda) Philips, Jason (Arley) Philips, Herbert (Marlene) Philips, and Samuel (Nadine) Philips; and siblings in law: Arthur (Dorothy) Talbott, Mildred (Clair) Sellers, and Shirley (Donald) Jones.
