Leola R. O'Brien, 83, of Waukee formerly of Hartley, IA died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 14 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley.
Leola was born August 24, 1929 to Fred and Martha Fredericks in Hartley, IA. She received her education from Hartley High School. She married Bob O'Brien on September 11, 1950, and their marriage was blessed with three daughters. She spent most of her married life in Hartley. Through the years Leola was involved with St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society and the Y'Adnom Club in Hartley. She was a devoted wife, mother of three daughters and grandmother.
She is survived by three daughters, Pam (Doug) Stange of Baxter, MN, Shelley (Robert) Wiltgen of Rochester, MN and Sandra (Dr. Robert) Rondinelli of Urbandale; one brother, Malvern Fredericks of Alamagordo, NM; six grandchildren, Andrea and Nathan Stange, Brandon and Cory Wiltgen, and Jamie and Wesley Rondinelli; and one great granddaughter, Taylor Stange. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. O'Brien and seven siblings.
The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made to the Hartley High School Home Economics Class.
Leola's daughters and their families would like to extend much appreciation to the nurses and all the staff at Ramsey Village for their excellent care and love.
Leola will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her belief that everyone should have a "wishbone, backbone and funnybone."
