The funeral of John Rohwer was held at the Presbyterian church here last Tuesday, the services being in charge of Rev. R. Lorenz of Peterson, and the sermon being delivered in the German tongue. Deceased was a brother of the late Jurgen Rohwer of this place, and had mad occasional visits to the town. He was an uncle of the Rohwers here. We understand that he requested just previous to death that he be laid by the side of his brother at Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina.
We gleaned from the minister's report that John Rohwer was born April 1, 1840, at Jagel, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. He came to America in 862, settling with his brother George at Moline, Illinois. The following year he moved to Scott County, and in 1867 he went to Tama county.
In February, 1876, he was married to Anna Sieck Five children were born of this union. Three of these survive and with the mother were present at the funeral.
Mr. Rohwer some time since moved from Tama county to Sutherland, and also lived near his property in Minnesota. Last January he moved to Clinton where he passed his last days.
The relatives from afar who were present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Eekhoff of Brunswick, Nebraska, Mra. and Mrs. Petersen of Clinton, Iowa, Mesdames Jenner and Hilbert of Sutherland, Iowa, and Mrs. J.P. Runge of Sordon, Minnesota. The relatives and acquaintances of the deceased at this place were in attendance at the funeral.
