Funeral services for Walter S.Stoneking were held Monday, April13 at the United Methodist Church of Paullina. Mr. Stoneking died April 10 at a Sioux Falls hospital.
Rev. Vernon Sorensen was pastor at the services. Pallbearers were Charles Stoneking, Allen Stoneking, Francis Stoneking, Wesley Goodwin, Elwayne Jatho and Earl Kahl. The hymn "Guide Me,0 Thou Great Jehovah" was sung by the congregation with Mrs. Otis Grosvenor as organist.
Mr. Stoneking was born February 23, 1896 at Cushing, Iowa [sic -birth record shows born Holstein, Ida, Iowa]. He was married to Mildred Stelck on June 3, 1926 at Cherokee. They moved to Paullina in 1944 from Wakefield, Nebraska. He was a Veteran of World War I and a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Mildred; a son, Thomas of Marcus; daughter, Doris, Mrs. Robert Gathman of Hartley; five grandchildren; 2 brothers, Ralph of Quimby and Marion of Cherokee; and one sister, Laura, Mrs. Earl Walter of Quimby.
Burial was in Prairie View cemetery.
