TWO MORE PIONEERS GONE
MRS. H. A. RICHARDSON AND MRS. AWE DEAD
LATTER HAD REACHED AGE OF 89
Both Came To O'Brien County In The Early Days - Both Were Well Known WomenOne of Paullina's very oldest women died last Sunday night, when Grandmother Awe passed away at her home in the north part of town. She had been ill but two weeks, having been afflicted with bronchitis. During the early part of her illness she reached her 80th birthday. She also could lay claim to being one of the early settlers in O'Brien county, having lived here nearly thirty years.
Fredericka Kruse Awe. was born October 6, 1824 in Bauersdorf, Strahlsund, Germany. She was married in the old country in 1846 to Freiderich Awe and to them were born seven children, only two of whom are still living. The husband died in the old country and in 1871 the remainder of the family came to America, settling in Indiana.
Thirteen years later, or in 1884, they came to O'Brien county and until 1895 lived on a farm. Since then Mrs. Awe has lived in town. For over 40 years Grandmother Awe has made her home with her daughter-in-law, who for the past twenty years has been a widow. Mrs. Awe also was the ancestor of 15 grandchildren, of whom Ed Awe and Mrs. Chas. Kaye are two, and also 24 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held Wednesday at the German Lutheran church, with Rev. Semmann in charge. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery.
Mrs. Awe has always been an active woman, in spite of her years. She has always had a fine garden of which she took, personal care and has been a well known and liked neighbor. So far as we know she was the second oldest living woman in Paullina.
