H. Gordon Houston, a 45-year resident of Stanton, Iowa, passed away at the age of 83 on February 25, 2025, at the Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home in Newman Grove, Nebraska. Born on October 26, 1941, in Clovis, New Mexico, to John and Agnes Houston of rural Farwell, Texas. Gordon was known for his strong work ethic and devotion to family.

His career path started with being a cowboy on ranches along the Texas/New Mexico border. In the early 1960s, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where one of his brothers had established himself and soon found work as an assembly line auto body welder at the Ford Motor Company Claycomo, Missouri plant. In the early 1970's, Gordon moved to Rock Port, Missouri, where he found work at a local meat packing plant as a maintenance technician and in the construction of Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, Nebraska. In 1973, Gordon continued to pursue his welding career by relocating to Red Oak, Iowa, and taking a welding position in the construction of the Uniroyal/Parker plant.

Gordon met his wife, Carolyn Neill, while doing his laundry at the laundromat on 4th & Washington in Red Oak. Carolyn's car had broken down, and she came in to use the payphone. Gordon and Carolyn decided to make their home in Stanton, where their two sons and two of their grandsons attended school K-12.

Gordon leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication through his two sons, Mario (Jenn) Houston and Dennis (Dana) Houston, and his adored grandchildren, Bree (Alan), Taylor, Austin (Libby), Rylan, Hunter, and Mavrick Houston. Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carolyn (Neill) Houston, his parents, John and Agnes Houston, his in-laws, John and Mary Neill, and his siblings, John, Vera, Louise, Sandy, and Martha.

A private family service will be held to honor Gordon's life and legacy. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
