25 December 2024In Loving Memory of Vicky Rae Orr
August 21, 1939 – December 18, 2024
Willmar, Minnesota, Formerly of Onawa, IowaVicky Rae Orr, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of her family.
Vicky was born and raised in Onawa, Iowa. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1957 and continued her education at Morningside College, where she studied Home Economics. After college, Vicky moved to California to stay with an uncle and further her education. She ended up calling California home for the next 15 years. During her time in California, Vicky married and had three children, building a life full of friends, love, and memories.
When her children became school-aged, Vicky decided to move back to her hometown of Onawa, Iowa, to be closer to her family and raise her children in a small community that she knew and loved.
A hardworking and determined woman, Vicky raised her three children on her own. Wanting to provide for her family and create a stable future, she went back to school and trained to become a skilled and passionate hairdresser. For over 30 years, she dedicated herself to her craft, becoming a beloved figure in the community. Vicky enjoyed cutting the hair of many high school students and continued to stay involved with the school, chaperoning dances and offering support to students long after her own children had graduated.
Vicky had a special place in her heart for animals. She was a true animal lover and had many cats and dogs throughout her life, all of whom were treated like royalty. They brought her much joy and were an important part of her life.
Vicky was also an avid gardener, particularly fond of cultivating beautiful lilies. She was most proud of the purple ribbon she won at the fair for her prized blooms—the grandest of all ribbons. That purple ribbon symbolized her hard work and dedication to something she truly loved.
She also cherished her travel experiences, especially memorable trips to Hawaii with her daughter Keli and to Paris with her daughter Keri. But above all, Vicky’s greatest joy came from her family. She leaves behind her three children: Keri (Mike) Gramm of Spicer, Minnesota, Michael Mason of California, and Keli (Alec) Siegel of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as well as her four beloved grandchildren: Eden (Chase) Davis, Olivia Siegel, Aden Siegel, and Mason Siegel. She is also survived by her sister, Jolene Orr of Onawa, Iowa, and a circle of cherished friends. Vicky was preceded in death by her parents, Hester and Arthur (Red) Orr, and her special friend, Cliff Andreen.
Vicky’s kindness, grace, and humor touched everyone who knew her. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen, loved, and special. Her legacy of love, hard work, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, 1629 10th St, Onawa, IA 51040, with a celebration of Vicky’s life to follow at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. Burial will take place after the service in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with a reception at Goslar Funeral Home Chapel immediately following. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
