Richard Robert Davis, Sr., 87, of Castana, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

A memorial service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Castana Community Church U. C.C., Castana, Iowa, with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. A recording of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Richard’s obituary. Burial will follow at the Kennebec Cemetery, Castana, Iowa, with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and Grimsley – Thayer American Legion Post #502, of Castana, Iowa. A visitation will be 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday, November 22, 2024 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Richard Robert was born January 15, 1937, in Castana, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Lucille (Everett) Davis. He attended Castana High School and graduated with the class of 1955. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy from January 4, 1956 and was honorably discharged December 3, 1959.

Richard and Carrie Bettegar were united in marriage on May 3, 1958 in the Castana Church. To this union they were blessed with two sons: Rick and Chad.

Richard enjoyed working as a truck driver with his dad at Lloyd Davis and Sons doing custom corn shelling and trucking, then worked for Brunings Inc., and later managed the Castana Grain Elevator for many years. After retirement, he drove truck for Russell Melby and also worked for the City of Castana.

He was a member of the Castana Community Church U. C. C., Castana, Iowa. Richard volunteered on the Castana Fire Department and served as a past fire chief. He also took part on the Castana City Council, and the Castana Community Church U. C. C. Board.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie Davis of Castana, Iowa; two sons, Rick (Mary) Davis of Castana, Iowa, and Chad Davis of Castana, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin (Angie Heiden) Davis of Denison, Iowa, and Jacob (Shelby) Davis of Mapleton, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Jaxson Hildebrand, Adyson Hildebrand, Averly Davis, and Hallie Mae Davis; brother, Keith (Alyce) Davis of Denver Colorado; sister-in-law, Benita Davis of Onawa, Iowa; and other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lucille (Everett) Davis; brothers, Don (Virgie) Davis, and Russell Davis; and grandparents, George and Rosettee (Richmond) Davis, and Wilson and Estel (Carroll) Everett.
