DEATH SUMMONS FORMER RESIDENT OF UNION COUNTY.
Rites Held Recently at Onawa, Ia. For Mrs. Minnie Layson.

The following obituary of a former resident of Union county, S.D., Mrs. Minnie Layson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hans P. Johnson, well-known early day farm residents west of Akron, appeared in last week’s Elk Point Leader-Courier:

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 30, at Onawa, Iowa, for Mrs. Minnie Layson, former Elk Point resident, and sister of Mrs. O. G. Groethe, Elk Point. Mrs. Layson passed away December 26 at the Brentwood Nursing Home, LeMars, Iowa, after an illness of several months.

Minnie Layson was born on a farm in Union county, South Dakota, on March 2, 1893, of parents Hans P. Johnson and Christiana Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in Brule Creek Lutheran church by Rev. H. S. Rue.

She received her education in the rural public schools of Union county, after which she was employed in several mercantile stores in Akron, Iowa, and Elk Point. On February 8, 1915, she was united in marriage to Lemuel F. Layson, who preceded her in death on March 8, 1948.

Mrs. Layson had lived in Onawa for nearly 45 years, with the exception of two years when she and her husband resided in Whiting, Ia. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church of Onawa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Survivors are one son, Myron F. Layson, of Burbank, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. O. G. Groethe, Elk Point, Mrs. Hilma Carroll and Miss Ovidia Johnson, both of Sioux City; one brother, Oscar Johnson of Sioux City; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
