30 October 2024Ronald “Ron” Lee Armstrong, 83, of Whiting, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Burgess Health Center, Onawa, Iowa.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa, with Pastor Jed Shermer, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Emery-Johnson American Legion Post #481 of Whiting, Iowa. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Ron’s obituary. Luncheon will follow the service at the church. Burial will follow the luncheon in the Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Iowa. A visitation will be 4:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. Sunday, October 27, 2024, with a 6:30 P.M. prayer service at the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Ronald Lee Armstrong was born February 27, 1941, on a farm just east of Turin, Iowa, the seventh child of Bert and Viola (Devenport) Armstrong. At the young age of two Ron and his family moved to Mondamin, Iowa, to the family farm. He attended Echo Country School, late graduated from Mondamin High School in 1959.
In 1963 Ron joined the Army Reserves and studied medicine and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, San Antionio, Texas. After serving, he returned home and worked at the local Champlin Station. He had various other jobs, working part-time farming for an elderly couple, the Farmers COOP Association in Pisgah, Iowa, where he moved up to branch manager, and later for Jerry Arndt in the Mondamin Apple Orchards.
After retiring, he became the caregiver for his sister Lela until her passing.
Ron decided to move off the farm and moved to Whiting, Iowa. He became an assistant store manager for the Little Cross and Gift Shop.
Ron and Joyce Peterson were united in marriage on April 21, 2012.
He was a member of the Emery-Johnson American Legion Post #481 of Whiting, Iowa, and the Whiting Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Armstrong; sisters, Rosie Tedford of Pisgah, Iowa, Patsy Beck of Logan, Iowa, and Mary (Al) White of Hornick, Iowa; brother, Keith (April) Armstrong of Pisgah, Iowa; step-children, Jaye (Amy) Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa, Jared Johnson of Indonesia, and Jennie (Chris) Bordanaro of Rosemount, Minnesota; six step-grandchildren; good friends, Sheila Holbrook of Onawa, Iowa, and Cathy Mortensen of Alabama; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Viola (Devenport) Armstrong; brothers, Lester (Ruby) Armstrong, Kenneth (Margaret) Armstrong, and Walter (LaVonne) Armstrong; sisters, Lela Armstrong and Ruby (Bernard) Sigler; brother-in-law, Robert Tedford, and Ronnie Beck; and good friend, Charlie Mortensen.
