Florence Swanson Stock

OSAGE — Florence Swanson Stock, 91, of St. Ansgar, formerly of Osage, died Saturday (Oct. 10, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Arthur Hill officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage.

Florence was born April 1, 1907, in rural Mitchell County near Osage, the daughter of Roy and Alice (Millard) Hovelson. She attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1924.

Florence worked at the Swanson-Pohle Drug Store until her marriage to Elmer Swanson in 1928. Florence was a beautiful seamstress and knitter and took great pride in her home and family. She was baptized in and remained a life-long member of the Osage First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years.

After the death of her husband, Elmer, in 1957, she assisted her son for 17 years with the family business, Swanson Insurance Agency. She also worked at Dunlop-Haakenson Insurance for two years. In 1974, she married Russell Stock, a long-time friend. Florence will always be remembered as a loving and caring person.

Survivors include her husband, Russell; one daughter, Jeannine Altick and her husband, Art, of Osage; one son, Bob Swanson of Loveland, Colo.; one granddaughter; four grandsons; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two stepchildren; six stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Elmer, two brothers, two infant granddaughters, a great grandson and a son-in-law.
